Sourdough Trailhead Gate

Community Projects | Forest Service Trailhead Gate | Joe Stoll Sourdough Canyon Trailhead Memorial Gate, GVLT
Location | Sourdough Canyon Trailhead, Bozeman, Montana.
Materials | Steel pipe, concrete base, recycled gravel screening mesh and steel letters.
Design Intent | A transparent gate that allows passage through the center of the trail drawing the eye and visitor up the gravel path that meanders along the creek. The radius arms of the gate open independently of each other and in opposite directions.
This is Bozeman’s Gateway to Yellowstone National Park. From this point you can walk all the way to Yellowstone without leaving public land. The gates curve in and out with the passage through the center. An organic flow inspired by the curve of the creek and the gravel path that leads into the mountains.
