Hearth is the Heart
Community Projects | Pedestrian Bridge for Gallatin County’s Regional Park, GVLT | Memorial for Pete & Mado Pederson
Location | In the northwest corner of Gallatin Valley Regional Park, Bozeman, Montana
Materials | Steel pipe arcs, stainless steel cable and Gouda hardwood for bench seating.
Design Intent | The donor’s parents were involved in Ducks Unlimited which inspired the idea to create a kinetic sculpture in a static form. The overhead arcs are each rotated out four degrees from the bridge center point creating a cantilevered bench in the center of the span that is raised above the traffic area of the bridge decking. The arcs and steel duck silhouettes cast ever changing shadows on the ground plane. Solar powered lights illuminate the bridge in the night sky.
Award | 2014 Public Trail Amenity Award, Bozeman Beautification Advisory Award
