"New architectural firm opens in Northeast Bozeman" Business to Business (A Trade Journal for Southwest Montana), June 3, 2008

A rapidly changing area of Bozeman has another new business. Kenneth J. VanDeWalle, Architect AIA Inc. opened its doors at the end of April. The practice has not only architectural services but also design and other offerings. VanDeWalle's office and studio are located at 408 North Plum Avenue, within the distinctive home that he and wife Kristin designed on Bozeman's northeast side.

"Ken is well versed in creating inspiring spaces with unparalled attention to the layering, rhythm and details of a space," a press release explained. "His designs are true to the materials' inherent strengths and characteristics."

VanDeWalle concentrates on contemporary designs, which the release notes "are uniquely communicated with an industrial craftsmanship."

"His buildings are naturally and fundamentally sustainable through innovative use of materials, creation of spaces, site placement and application of natural and applied uses of alternative energy."

As part of the new business, VanDeWalle has launched Architecture in Detail, a service that he offers within the larger practice to design and fabricate furnishings, fixtures and structural details for his clients.

A Wisconsin native, VanDeWalle learned carpentry and steel fabrication early on, both of which strongly influence his work. He also spent 10 years in the Marine Corps, where he earned a degree in engineering. He earned subsequent degrees in architecture in North Carolina, also studying in Europe and Japan. - Nicole Rosenleaf Ritter
